How to use this angle finder

Use “Find Angle” when you’ve got two measurements — rise (vertical) and run (horizontal) — and need to know the actual angle to set your saw or grinder to. Use “Find Rise” the other way around: if you already know the angle you want and the horizontal run, it tells you how much rise that angle produces over that distance.

Angle finder formula

Angle = arctan(Rise ÷ Run)
Rise = Run × tan(Angle)

This is the same relationship a speed square or angle finder tool uses — rise and run form a right triangle, and the angle between the run and the hypotenuse is what you’re cutting to. Slope percentage is the same ratio expressed as rise over run × 100, which is how ramps and roof pitches often get specified instead of degrees.
