How to use this saw kerf calculator
Enter your available stock length, the piece length you need, and your blade’s kerf width — the material the blade itself removes with every cut. Add how many total pieces you need and it tells you how many boards to buy, not just how many pieces one board yields.
Formula
Pieces per Board = FLOOR( (Stock Length + Kerf) ÷ (Piece Length + Kerf) )
Every cut after the first eats a little extra material as sawdust — on a long cut list that adds up to a piece or two you didn’t budget for. A standard table saw blade runs about 1/8″ kerf; thin-kerf blades and most circular saws run narrower, which is why kerf width is worth checking rather than assuming.
